'You don't know what you're talking about, human,' Maleram Half-ear said. 'We dreamed the Dream long before your race even had gone bipedal. We are so tapu that simply talking to us would kill a human.'
'I haven't died yet,' he said. 'Besides, master Tibusakewh said -'
'Old Tibus doesn't count. He's too blind to be tapu anymore,' Half-ear replied. He grinned. 'Nah, I'm just kidding. But we're way more tapu than you, anyways.'
What a brilliant piece of fiction... Yes, I already have an idea for this year's NaNo. I will now put it away until November.
If you haven't already guessed it, the idea has something to do with the Maori culture and dragons. The Maori believed all things were "tapu", or spiritual, to some extent, and great chiefs and priests were so tapu that eating food they had touched was said to kill a mere commoner.
The green dragon is old Tibusakewh, or Tibus, and he's blind, as you probably could see. He's mostly serious and somewhat pessimistic.
The orange one is Maleram (name difference, no?), called Half-ear for obvious reasons. He's a tricky dragon. You never know where you have him.
It's a sad fact that I've never written a story with dragons that actually works. But now I have an idea, and I think it can be an okay one, too. So I'll put it away until NaNo, I promise. I have way too much fun with my current projects, anyways.
I referenced a couple of dino skulls for these ones. Cookie to the one who guesses what kinds of dinos.
